Distribution Designer (Baltimore Office - Hughsville, MD worksite)

Occupational Summary: 

Growing Full Service Consulting Engineering firm serving utility industry is seeking a Distribution Designer is a position within the Baltimore Office team to perform related engineering tasks and provide technical expertise to solve design problems with minimum supervision. Incumbents are expected to perform a variety of routine tasks, which provide experience and familiarity with engineering staff, methods, practices and programs.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Performs electric and/or outdoor lightingdistribution system design, including extension, improvement, relocation, abandonment, and removal of facilities per company standards. Required to apply published Company standards and calculations using computer aided design and drafting methods.
  • Reviews plans of proposed construction by customers and outside agencies to determine the extent of interference with our existing or proposed facilities.
  • Determines specifications, materials, costs, customer charges, permitting, and right of way requirements and develops the necessary documentation and work management system input to meet all prerequisites for construction.
  • Performs field visits as necessary.
  • Maintains customer contact (internal/external) throughout job to ensure mutually agreed upon commitments are met.
  • Must be capable of walking along outdoor distribution lines to perform field inspections. Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches
  • Perform basic functions of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Must interface well with employees and customers at all levels.

Engineering Technician I (Raleigh, NC & Baltimore, MD)

Occupational Summary: 

Engineering TechnicianI is a position for utility mapping of existing and new infrastructure. Performs assignments designed to develop electric and gas infrastructureknowledge and drawing abilities. Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections.

Position responsibilities include:

  • In conjunction with Project Engineer or Project Manager, determines design criteria, compiles data, designs various facets of project for construction, and maintains reference material for design.•Performs non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
  • Performs design calculations, prepares material and equipment specifications, and provides preliminary sketches and notes for drawings.
  • Completes detailed drawings from sketches, plans, specification, and written and verbal instructions using MicroStation and AutoCAD.
  • Performs duties in accordance with project budgets and company policies and procedures.
  • Must be capable of self-checking routine assignments.
  • Perform basic functions of Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, PowerPointand Outlook.

Designer - Environmental Services Division (Raleigh, NC)

Occupational Summary: 

Designer  is a position within the Transmission Line Engineering team to perform related engineering tasks and provide technical expertise to solve design problems under close supervision.  Incumbents are expected to perform a variety of routine tasks, which provide experience and familiarity with engineering staff, methods, practices and programs.  This position reports to the Transmission Engineering Manager.

Position responsibilities include:

  • The expected level of supervision of a candidate will be based on their years of experience and qualifications.
  • Participate in the design and evaluation of Client transmission and distribution overhead power lines to ensure that the needs of the Client are met in the most economical and effective manner
  • Participate in Overhead Transmission & Distribution Design utilizing PLS-CADD™ software. Models are built from the ground up to minor revisions to existing models.
  • Review engineering plans, specifications and equipment for utility projects.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.
  • Assist in the continued development of both Company and Client standards to provide guidelines for future project planning and design

Distribution Engineer (Raleigh, NC)

Occupational Summary: 

Distribution Engineer opportunity with an established multi-office, industry-leading consulting engineering firm. This is an excellent opportunity to join our team and requires the exercise of independent judgment and discretion in handling specific details and activities. The incumbent is expected to work both independently and within a team environment with minimum supervision.

Looking for a Distribution Engineer with 5+ years of overhead and underground distribution design experience.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Design, stake and coordinate overhead and underground distribution projects to meet NESC, RUS or other applicable standards, specifications and all applicable codes.
  • Perform peer and final reviews of distribution designs performed in part or in full by others to ensure all applicable standards, specifications and codes are met.
  • Seal distribution line designs completed by you and others.
  • Coordinate design and construction of distribution line project with customer and other affected utilities.
  • Assist customer in acquiring easements, encroachments and permits as needed.
  • Provide design support through preparation of draft reports, calculations, details, plans and specifications.
  • Preparation of scheduling, planning, designing, permitting and construction documents.
  • Ensure that work meets all safety and quality standards, codes and specifications including set schedules and deadlines.
  • Recognize, analyze & resolve problems and issues at the earliest phase possible.
  • Provide timely and accurate information on progress, reviews, observations, solutions and/or any other project related information in an understandable format.
  • Track budgets and project financials for accuracy; invoice clients appropriately.

  • Excellent project management skills and ability to meet deliverables on time and on budget. Experience with Microsoft Project software is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently with multiple priorities and schedules throughout the project life cycle.
  • Experience interacting with technical and non-technical persons in a client-consultant setting.
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD experience (Civil 3D experience is a plus).
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
  • Physically able to negotiate construction sites and work outside

Engineer I - Baltimore Office (Civil or Electrical) (Baltimore, MD)

Occupational Summary: 

Engineer I is an entry-level position within the Baltimore Satellite office team to perform electric and gas utility related engineering tasks and provide technical expertise to solve design problems under close supervision.  Incumbents are expected to perform a variety of routine tasks, which provide experience and familiarity with engineering staff, methods, practices and programs.  This position reports to the Operations Manager.  The engineer will need to be flexible with work assignments and eager to learn new tasks as the office grows.

Position requirements include:

• Works under close supervision and receives specific and detailed instructions for required tasks and results expected.

• Participate in the design and evaluation of Client both electric and gas transmission and distribution infrastructure to ensure that the needs of the Client are met in the most economical and effective manner

• Participate infrastructure design using AutoCAD, PLS-CADD and/or other design tools.

• Develop understanding and expertise of DOT 192, ASME and local jurisdiction natural gas requirements. Participate in preparation and administration of client construction contracts.

• Develop understanding and expertise of RUS and NESC requirements. Participate in preparation and administration of IOU, RUS, state, and municipal construction contracts.
