Designer - Environmental Services Division (Raleigh, NC)

Occupational Summary: 

Designer  is a position within the Transmission Line Engineering team to perform related engineering tasks and provide technical expertise to solve design problems under close supervision.  Incumbents are expected to perform a variety of routine tasks, which provide experience and familiarity with engineering staff, methods, practices and programs.  This position reports to the Transmission Engineering Manager.

Position responsibilities include:

  • The expected level of supervision of a candidate will be based on their years of experience and qualifications.
  • Participate in the design and evaluation of Client transmission and distribution overhead power lines to ensure that the needs of the Client are met in the most economical and effective manner
  • Participate in Overhead Transmission & Distribution Design utilizing PLS-CADD™ software. Models are built from the ground up to minor revisions to existing models.
  • Review engineering plans, specifications and equipment for utility projects.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.
  • Assist in the continued development of both Company and Client standards to provide guidelines for future project planning and design
  • Perform basic functions of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Must interface well with employees at all levels.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Civil/Environmental Engineer - Environmental Services Division (Raleigh, NC)

Occupational Summary: 

Booth & Associates, LLC is a consulting engineering firm that specializes in providing a full range of engineering, surveying and project management services to the utility industry.  We are currently looking for a qualified environmental engineer responsible for developing the environmental permit applications, calculations and drawings needed for land-disturbing construction activity.  Knowledge of Flo2d or equivalent for development of hydrology studies is critical.  This position reports to the General Manager – Support Services.  Incumbents are expected to perform a variety of tasks, which provide experience and familiarity with engineering staff, methods, practices and programs.  The engineer will need to be flexible with work assignments and eager to learn new tasks.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Provides engineering assistance with all aspects of site design and specifications including zoning, erosion control and stormwater management.
  • Assists in preparing project-related permit applications and reports as needed; including Army Corp, NCDEQ Erosion Control, Stormwater and DOT permits.
  • Engineer will be assisting in the preparation of Hydrology Reports using a combination of Hydro CAD, AutoCAD Civil 3d and/ or Flo2D software.
  • Engineer will prepare EPCRA Tier II reporting documentation and assist in the development of Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans
  • Field work relating to permitting/wetland or spill containment/other duties as required.

Position requirements include:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience and working knowledge of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3d a plus
  • Thorough working knowledge of Flo2d or equivalent; Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat

Distribution Engineer (Raleigh, NC)

Occupational Summary: 

Distribution Engineer opportunity with an established multi-office, industry-leading consulting engineering firm. This is an excellent opportunity to join our team and requires the exercise of independent judgment and discretion in handling specific details and activities. The incumbent is expected to work both independently and within a team environment with minimum supervision.

Looking for a Distribution Engineer with 5+ years of overhead and underground distribution design experience.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Design, stake and coordinate overhead and underground distribution projects to meet NESC, RUS or other applicable standards, specifications and all applicable codes.
  • Perform peer and final reviews of distribution designs performed in part or in full by others to ensure all applicable standards, specifications and codes are met.
  • Seal distribution line designs completed by you and others.
  • Coordinate design and construction of distribution line project with customer and other affected utilities.
  • Assist customer in acquiring easements, encroachments and permits as needed.
  • Provide design support through preparation of draft reports, calculations, details, plans and specifications.
  • Preparation of scheduling, planning, designing, permitting and construction documents.
  • Ensure that work meets all safety and quality standards, codes and specifications including set schedules and deadlines.
  • Recognize, analyze & resolve problems and issues at the earliest phase possible.
  • Provide timely and accurate information on progress, reviews, observations, solutions and/or any other project related information in an understandable format.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year program.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience with prior professional work in a related field is desirable.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License. • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills (English).
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to meet deliverables on time and on budget. Experience with Microsoft Project software is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently with multiple priorities and schedules throughout the project life cycle.
  • Experience interacting with technical and non-technical persons in a client-consultant setting.
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD experience (Civil 3D experience is a plus).
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
  • Physically able to negotiate construction sites and work outside

Structural Detailer (Raleigh, NC)

Occupational Summary: 

The Structural Detailer position will involve assisting the lead project Engineer in the development of drawings for substation structures and other miscellaneous structures in the utilities industry. Assignments will include creating detailed steel fabrication drawings, erection plans, foundation drawings, and coordinating work with project team. Applicant should be detail oriented and possess a thorough knowledge of structural steel detailing practices and all applicable AWS & AISC codes. Engineer I - Baltimore Office (Civil or Electrical) (Baltimore, MD)

Occupational Summary: 

Engineer I is an entry-level position within the Baltimore Satellite office team to perform electric and gas utility related engineering tasks and provide technical expertise to solve design problems under close supervision.  Incumbents are expected to perform a variety of routine tasks, which provide experience and familiarity with engineering staff, methods, practices and programs.  This position reports to the Operations Manager.  The engineer will need to be flexible with work assignments and eager to learn new tasks as the office grows.

• Works under close supervision and receives specific and detailed instructions for required tasks and results expected.
