Distribution Designer - Baltimore Office (worksite in Hughesville, MD)
 

Occupational Summary: 

Growing Full Service Consulting Engineering firm serving utility industry is seeking a Distribution Designer is a position within the Baltimore Office team to perform related engineering tasks and provide technical expertise to solve design problems with minimum supervision. Incumbents are expected to perform a variety of routine tasks, which provide experience and familiarity with engineering staff, methods, practices and programs. This position reports to the Baltimore Office Manager.

Position requirements include:

Performs electric and/or outdoor lighting distribution system design, including extension, improvement, relocation, abandonment, and removal of facilities per company standards. Required to apply published Company standards and calculations using computer aided design and drafting methods.

Reviews plans of proposed construction by customers and outside agencies to determine the extent of interference with our existing or proposed facilities.

Determines specifications, materials, costs, customer charges, permitting, and right of way requirements and develops the necessary documentation and work management system input to meet all prerequisites for construction.

Performs field visits as necessary.

Maintains customer contact (internal/external) throughout job to ensure mutually agreed upon commitments are met.

Must be capable of walking along outdoor distribution lines to perform field inspections. Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds.

Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches

Perform basic functions of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Must interface well with employees and customers at all levels.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Senior Engineer - System Planning Division (Raleigh, NC) 

Occupational Summary: 

Growing Full Service Consulting Engineering firm serving utility industry is seeking a Senior Engineer within the Planning, System Studies, and Distribution Automation Engineering team to perform related engineering tasks with a high level of diversified technical expertise and leadership to solve design problems under minimal supervision. This position reports to the Division Vice President.  The incumbent is expected to apply sound and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.  Preferred areas of competence / experience include (not limited to): Power Quality, Arc Flash, Distributed Generation, Battery Energy Storage, and Micro-grid studies / analysis / implementation.

The primary objectives of this position are to plan, organize, and execute assigned engineering studies. In this position, the incumbents will at times be expected to carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.

Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches. Must be able to make decisions leading to successful management of assigned tasks.

Usher final signed-sealed approval and certification of project deliverables with minimal supervision.

Senior Engineer - Transmission/Distribution Division (Baltimore, MD)

Occupational Summary: 

Senior Engineer position within the Transmission/ Distribution Engineering team to perform related engineering tasks and provide technical expertise and leadership to solve design problems under minimal supervision.  Incumbents are expected to be a leader, manage some to all stages of design, perform a variety of routine and complex tasks to solve power utility design problems, effectively communicate within the design and project management team, and provide technical guidance on unusual or complex problems to comply with applicable standards, such as the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).  This position reports to the Manager of Operations.

Position requirements include:

Senior Engineer works under minimal supervision and is expected to accurately produce required results without specific direction in a timely fashion. At this level, the Senior Engineer shall be proficient in complex design scope and scheduling, understand transmission and distribution design criteria, be an active mentor to young designers/engineers within the department, and be able to effectively communicate inadequacies in information provided by others and offer recommendations to comply with applicable design and safety codes.

Be an active leader in the design and evaluation of Client transmission and distribution overhead power lines to ensure that the needs of the Client are met in the most economical and effective manner. Senior Engineer is also expected to conduct accurate and efficient design reviews of work completed by peers in support of company commitment to quality.

Participate in Overhead Transmission & Distribution Design utilizing PLS-CADD™ software. Models are built from the ground up to minor revisions to existing models.  The Senior Engineer shall be proficient in PLS-CADD, show ability/willingness to provide guidance to fellow team members, and effectively troubleshoot complex issues.  The Senior should be able to bring full designs to 90%-100%  completion with minimal direction; working alongside the Engineer of Record.

Processes understanding and expertise of RUS and NESC requirements. Prepares and administers IOU, RUS, state, and municipal construction contracts.

Review engineering plans, specifications and equipment for utility projects. Senior Engineershould be able to effectively communicate with Vendors, Governing Agencies, and Clients with minimal supervision.  Provides review and consultation of design specifications and material selection.

Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.

Performs on-site design and/or construction observation reviews with supervision. Participates in Client meetings with minimal supervision.

Provides project coordination and manages the day to day deliverables, contract development, and Client management, including schedule and budget, with minimal supervision. May be tasked with approving invoices with approval of Division VP.

Assist in the continued development of both Company and Client standards to provide guidelines for future project planning and design.

Ushers final signed-sealed approval and certification of project deliverables with minimal supervision.

Engineer I is an entry-level position within the Baltimore Satellite office team to perform electric and gas utility related engineering tasks and provide technical expertise to solve design problems under close supervision.  Incumbents are expected to perform a variety of routine tasks, which provide experience and familiarity with engineering staff, methods, practices and programs.  This position reports to the Operations Manager.  The engineer will need to be flexible with work assignments and eager to learn new tasks as the office grows.

 We are an engineering firm that specializes in providing a full range of engineering and project management services to the electric utility industry. Currently we are looking for a qualified and experienced Distribution Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities:

Prepare and monitor Distribution Project Scopes, Proposals, Budgets, and Schedules

Manage assigned projects including coordinating efforts between different departments, contractors and sub-contractors. 

Design overhead and underground Distribution Lines (4 kV to 35 kV)

Perform and or Provide assistance as needed with Material Acquisition and Management, including:

- Technical Specifications, Recapitulation, Bidding, Drawing Review, Delivery Schedule, Inventory, etc.
- Provide support to client and construction crews during construction

Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Civil, Structural or Electrical Engineering with four (4) plus years of engineering experience or a comparable Associate's Degree with six (6) plus years of engineering experience

A minimum of four (4) years of experience in the electric utility industry

A minimum of two (2) years of experience in distribution line design and review

Registered Professional Engineer (PE)

Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project and Outlook).

Preferences:
Experience with RUS Distribution Design Standards
Experience with RUS Construction Units, both overhead and underground
Experience with RUS Work Order Inspection process
