Structural Detailer (Raleigh, NC)

Occupational Summary: 

The Structural Detailer position will involve assisting the lead project Engineer in the development of drawings for substation structures and other miscellaneous structures in the utilities industry. Assignments will include creating detailed steel fabrication drawings, erection plans, foundation drawings, and coordinating work with project team. Applicant should be detail oriented and possess a thorough knowledge of structural steel detailing practices and all applicable AWS & AISC codes. Ideal candidate will enjoy a fast paced learning environment.
 

Position requirements include:

Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings.
Perform non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
Production of steel fabrication drawings and erection plans.
Checking the accuracy of drawings produced by self and others.
Complete detailed drawings from sketches, plans, specification, and written and verbal instructions using AutoCAD.
Perform duties in accordance with project budgets and company policies and procedures.
Diligent record keeping.
Perform basic functions of Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Must interface well with employees and customers at all levels.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Civil Engineeer Designer - Environmental Services Division (Raleigh, NC) 

Occupational Summary: 

Booth & Associates, LLC is a consulting engineering firm that specializes in providing a full range of engineering, surveying and project management services to the utility industry. We are currently looking for a qualified civil designer responsible for developing drawings and assisting with permit applications. This position reports to the General Manager of Support Services. Incumbents are expected to perform a variety of tasks, which provide experience and familiarity with engineering staff, methods, practices and programs. The designer will need to be flexible with work assignments and eager to learn new tasks.

 

Position requirements include:

Provides engineering assistance with all aspects of site design and specifications including zoning, erosion control and stormwater management.
Assists in preparing project-related permit applications and reports as needed.
Designer can develop a complete set of construction drawings and calculations as needed from ALTA and topographical survey; including Layouts, Elevations, Details, Erosion Control, Storm Design, Grading and Plan and Profiles using AutoCAD Civil 3d based on project/client specifications with supervision from a Professional Engineer.
Some field work/other duties as required.
Good written and verbal communication skills
Experience and working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3d
Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Two year Associates in Drafting, Design and or Civil/Survey preferred.
2-5 years civil/grading experience required.

Senior Engineer - System Planning Division (Raleigh, NC) 

Occupational Summary: 

Growing Full Service Consulting Engineering firm serving utility industry is seeking a Senior Engineer within the Planning, System Studies, and Distribution Automation Engineering team to perform related engineering tasks with a high level of diversified technical expertise and leadership to solve design problems under minimal supervision. This position reports to the Division Vice President.  The incumbent is expected to apply sound and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.  Preferred areas of competence / experience include (not limited to): Power Quality, Arc Flash, Distributed Generation, Battery Energy Storage, and Micro-grid studies / analysis / implementation.

The primary objectives of this position are to plan, organize, and execute assigned engineering studies. In this position, the incumbents will at times be expected to carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.

Position requirements include:

All employees are expected to conduct themselves in a professional, polite, and respectful manner at all times. Must interface well with employees at all levels.

Expected to accurately produce required results without specific direction in a timely fashion. At this level, the Sr. Engineer shall be proficient in basic and more complex design scope and scheduling, understand electric utility planning/reliability criteria, be an active mentor to young designers/engineers within the department, and be able to effectively communicate inadequacies in information provided by others and offer recommendations to comply with applicable design and safety requirements/codes (such as IEEE, NESC, NEC, NFPA).

Must have working knowledge of electric utility systems: 480 VAC through 230,000 VAC, VDC experience preferred, as well.

Be an active leader in the modeling and evaluation of Client power utility and various Distributed Generation systems to ensure the needs of the Client are met in the most economical and effective manner.   Sr. Engineer is also expected to conduct accurate and efficient design reviews of work completed by peers in support of company commitment to quality.

Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches. Must be able to make decisions leading to successful management of assigned tasks.

Usher final signed-sealed approval and certification of project deliverables with minimal supervision.

Assist in the continued development of both Company and Client standards to provide guidelines for future project planning and design.

Engineer I - Baltimore Office (Civil or Electrical) (Baltimore, MD) 

Occupational Summary: 

Engineer I is an entry-level position within the Baltimore Satellite office team to perform electric and gas utility related engineering tasks and provide technical expertise to solve design problems under close supervision.  Incumbents are expected to perform a variety of routine tasks, which provide experience and familiarity with engineering staff, methods, practices and programs.  This position reports to the Operations Manager.  The engineer will need to be flexible with work assignments and eager to learn new tasks as the office grows.

Position requirements include:

Works under close supervision and receives specific and detailed instructions for required tasks and results expected.

Participate in the design and evaluation of Client both electric and gas transmission and distribution infrastructure to ensure that the needs of the Client are met in the most economical and effective manner

Participate infrastructure design using AutoCAD, PLS-CADD and/or other design tools.

Develop understanding and expertise of DOT 192, ASME and local jurisdiction natural gas requirements. Participate in preparation and administration of client construction contracts.

Develop understanding and expertise of RUS and NESC requirements. Participate in preparation and administration of IOU, RUS, state, and municipal construction contracts.

Review engineering plans, specifications and equipment for utility projects.
